Grayton Beach Homes
Grayton Beach real estate has existed since the late 1800s, but today's modern Grayton Beach has condos and new homes alongside the mid-century homes that have been overlooking the Gulf for decades. While the newer Grayton Beach homes are full of modern amenities, they still partake of the relaxed beach town life that this community has encouraged for generations. Grayton Beach Real Estate
Major Charles Gray gave this community its name when he homesteaded here in 1885. There is only one building from his time still standing: the Washaway Hotel, so named because it nearly did just that during a storm). Many Grayton Beach homes were constructed in the mid-20th century as vacation residences and many of these still stand.
Today, there are many more residences to choose one's future home from than the homes of yesteryear. There are a number of condo and townhome developments that offer amenities to home owners and there are newer beach cottages and even luxury estates.
Grayton Beach has grown significantly in the last half-century, but it still retains something of the sleepy 1950s beach town. The community definitely has a unique atmosphere - an informal Grayton motto is 'nice dogs, strange people' and the locals have a 'dog wall' where they have painted the portraits of their canine companions.
The Red Bar offers a good menu and live jazz nearly every night and brings people from the surrounding beach towns as well as nearby cities: Destin and Panama City Beach. The Hibiscus Coffee and Guesthouse is a great place for a sip and a bite, especially if you're eager to hit the beach or go cycling along the 19-mile Timpoochee Trail that runs along 30-A.
Grayton Beach is peaceful and the residents like it that way, but that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the opportunities that bigger communities offer. Destin, Sandestin and Panama City Beach are just a short drive away and contain all the shopping, dining, golf, tennis and other pursuits that one could wish. When you get tired of the big cities, however, a Grayton Beach home is a great place to come back to.
